A Royal Day to Remember for Jayne at the Tower of London
It was a very special day for Weald Hall Care Home resident Jayne, whose lifelong love of the Royal Family recently inspired a wonderful trip to the Tower of London.
At Weald Hall, we love hearing about our residents’ lives and the things that mean the most to them. These conversations often bring back wonderful memories and sometimes let us help make a long-held wish come true.
For our lovely resident Jayne, the Royal Family has always held a special place in her heart, particularly the late Queen Elizabeth II. Jayne has an incredible knowledge of royal history and often delights our team with fascinating facts and stories about the monarchy.
One memory she speaks of fondly is attending Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation in 1953, when she was just 16. Jayne recalls camping outside all night to secure her place and still remembers the excitement she felt as a young girl waiting to witness such a historic occasion.
Whenever Jayne talks about the Royal Family, her face lights up. It’s heartwarming to hear her share these memories and see how much they still mean to her.
During one of our conversations, Jayne mentioned that she had visited the Tower of London to see the beautiful poppy display but had never seen the Crown Jewels.
As soon as she told us, we knew this was something we wanted to arrange for her!

Plans soon got underway for a royal day out to the Tower of London and Jayne was absolutely thrilled when we invited her along. After so many years of following the Royal Family, she was finally going to see the Crown Jewels for herself.
On the day, Jayne took her time exploring the historic grounds and enjoying everything the Tower of London had to offer. Of course, seeing the magnificent Crown Jewels was a particular highlight and it was wonderful to watch her enjoying a place with so much royal history.
Jayne described the experience as “remarkable” and later told us she had enjoyed “the best day ever.”
Hearing that made the day even more special for our team.

But Jayne said something else afterwards that really stayed with us.
Reflecting on her experience, Jayne explained that the day had made her realise something. When you live on your own, you don’t laugh. She went on to tell us how much she had laughed during the trip and throughout her time at Weald Hall so far. It was a touching thing to hear. We’re so pleased that Jayne has been enjoying these moments of happiness and companionship since joining us.
For our team, the trip was a chance to celebrate something Jayne has loved throughout her life. We knew how much seeing the Crown Jewels would mean to her, so being able to share that experience with her was a real pleasure.
At Weald Hall, which specialises in dementia care, we want residents to continue enjoying their interests and visiting places they’ve always wanted to see. Getting to know their personal histories helps us arrange experiences that they will really enjoy, just as we did for Jayne.
Her royal adventure is a lovely example of how a conversation about a resident’s interests can lead to something wonderful. And while the Crown Jewels may have been the highlight of the trip, for our team, the real treasure was seeing the happiness on Jayne’s face.
