A Wonderful Day at the Ballet for Doreen
Doreen, a resident at Ardtully Care Home, recently visited Chelmsford to see a performance of Sleeping Beauty as a Christmas gift from her daughter Debbie. And it was a day that carried a great deal of personal meaning.
As a young woman, Doreen trained as a ballet dancer until the age of 18, when family circumstances meant she had to step away from something she loved. During those years, she performed alongside Teddy Green, one of Cliff Richard’s Young Ones and Doreen Wells, who went on to become a prima ballerina.
She also had the opportunity to meet and dance with Margot Fonteyn, one of the most celebrated ballerinas of all time.

Although her performing days are behind her, Doreen’s love of dance remains as strong as ever. She still moves with real grace and flexibility, which never fails to delight the people around her, reminding them of her lifelong talent.
It was a joy for the Ardtully team to be part of such a memorable day, one that celebrated Doreen’s incredible history and her lifelong love of dance.
A heartfelt thank you to Debbie for such a thoughtful gift.
